First off, this is an Illustration assignment, and we were told to re-design the poster of 17 sustainable developments goals to transform our world. Therefore, I would like to introduce our art titled Life Below Water which is one of the sustainable developments to transform our world. As this is an Illustration assignment, Mixed Media. We are asked to apply multiple art elements such as papers, plastics, pen, pencil and many more. With that, as mentioned, we decided to take down the title Life Below Water. As seen, we decided to use the classic and famous nickelodeon animation Spongebob Squarepants as it is well known by most people and it was one of our favourite childhood to watch animation. With that it could easily target young audience to imply a good habit to transform our world. Therefore, we decided to apply gesso on a canvas and sketched it out lightly as a guidance for our painting. With that, we decided to paint the pineapple and sky to bring out the contrast of the artwork. Followed up by that we also applied chiaroscuro to achieve simulated texture and to make it realistic. Next off we have the missing piece of the pineapple resembles to human taking away SpongeBob's habitat by littering and bringing water pollution causing him to be homeless. Not only that, we used real leaf's to make it look realistic and also to make it achieve actual texture for the artwork. Besides those, we also applied sand and pebbles to make it even more realistic and to achieve its actual texture allowing viewers to feel the artwork. Applying the sand and pebbles was not easy as we had to be very patient applying glues, sands and pebbles layers by layers 1 by 1 time at a time. Next up, we have the main subject which is also known as SpongBob, we decided to use an actual sponge also to let viewer feel the actual texture of it and it was also really time consuming as we had to cut and make some customization to the sponge and make sure the edges are balanced left and right and not to cut off too much of the sponge. Together with that we could also see the facial expression of SpongeBob is shocked when he realized that his house was being taken apart by the act of irresponsible human beings. As seen from the facial artwork of SpongeBob, his eyes was replaced by an sticker eye while his face was hand drawn on a piece of yellow paper as we couldn't draw on the sponge itself. To sum it up, this art required tons of patient to achieve the respective elements along with the color mixing progress. It is also obvious that the importance of Life Under Water should not be neglected or ignored as it could bring negative impacts to the world. The main focus of our artwork is to target young audience as they are the future of mother planet. So this artwork should make younger generations implant good habits since young so that their childhood cartoon would not be ruined or destroyed by the future acts of them.
